The organisers of Japan's largest annual rock festival say Morrissey has pulled out of a planned appearance at the festival due to a "sudden disagreement" about his performance. A statement from the organisers of the Fuji Festival which also features Lou Reed, PJ Harvey, the White Stripes and Ash later this month said: "While we had received official agreement regarding the artist's performance from both Morrissey's management and agent, a sudden disagreement arose between the two parties regarding the terms of the performance, upon which we were notified that Morrissey would not be appearing. "A further attempt was made between the parties to reach a contractual agreement, but as of now the situation remains unchanged." There has been no statement from Morrissey about the festival organisers' statement. Meanwhile, Morrissey has paid tribute to New York Dolls' bass player Arthur Kane who died last week. Morrissey, who helped reunite the Dolls for a series of appearances this summer, said, he was "personally very grateful to Arthur for his essential contribution to the Dolls and their music," and described Kane as "a very gentle soul." |
