 Ananova:
Johnny and Denise 'face axe'

Johnny Vaughan and Denise van Outen's new TV show is reportedly facing the axe after just three weeks.

The Daily Star says audience ratings for Passport to Paradise have dropped from 4.1 million in its first week to 3.3 million last week.

The game show is now trailing behind ITV's Celebrities Under Pressure, hosted by Vernon Kay.

The paper claims the BBC had been trying to recreate the chemistry van Outen and Vaughan cooked up when they presented Channel 4's Big Breakfast.

It says the duo were hired as part of BBC1 controller Lorraine Heggessey's 3 million pound drive to shake up an ailing Saturday night schedule - a bid which has already had some success with Strictly Come Dancing.

But it quotes an insider saying the new game show will be axed if the figures don't pick up.

The source said: "The BBC cannot be seen to be putting lots of money into a show that's not even hitting the six million mark."

However a BBC spokesman said: "We are not making any decisions yet. We are happy with the way it's going. Johnny and Denise are doing a great job."
