Pitch Black director David Twohy is already planning a third film featuring sci-fi anti-hero Richard B Riddick.

The character, played by Vin Diesel, first appeared in Twohy's Pitch Black, and appears in The Chronicles Of Riddick, due out on August 27.

Diesel says he envisaged a trilogy featuring Riddick as soon as he came across the Riddick character.

He told empireonline.co.uk: "From the very very beginning, when everyone thought it was crazy, I was thinking of The Chronicles of Riddick as a trilogy.

"That would start with the movie you saw, and Pitch Black would act as a prequel that introduced you to the character. So in simple terms, in Chronicles 2 we venture to the Underverse."
