TV stars Johnny Vaughan and Davina McCall are the man and woman most people would like to share a curry with. Big Brother presenter Davina was the hottest property in the curry poll, carried out by Tesco.com, with former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell in second place. Johnny Vaughan, the Big Breakfast host, was the top male curry companion followed by Richard Branson and Robbie Williams. Nearly two thirds of the 1,000 curry lovers polled would rather invite Barbara Windsor for a curry than share one with pop star Britney Spears. Although Posh Spice was the third most popular woman to have a beer and a balti with, husband David Beckham was the third least popular choice among male celebrities. Only one person in the UK-wide poll chose Vanessa Feltz as their ideal dining partner. Dale Winton was the least popular male curry companion with chef Ainsley Harriot not far behind. Hundreds of Indian restaurants, pubs and other food outlets are taking part in celebrations to mark National Curry Day and also raise money for the NSPCC's Full Stop campaign against child abuse and the Mother and Child charity which funds projects to help women and children on the Indian subcontinent. The charity event has raised almost £90,000 since it began in 1997. |
