Brian McFadden admits his growing hatred of Westlife's music was partly behind his decision to quit the band.

He also says his former bandmates suggested he might need therapy when he announced his plan to go solo, reports the Daily Mirror.

He said: "They thought it might be a head thing."

McFadden says his "impulsive, last minute" decision to walk out came about due to his depression about being in the band.

He said: "A lot of the stuff annoyed me - covers and cabaret songs."

The star tells Weekend magazine denies he is trying to be another Robbie Williams.

He said: "I don't want to be like anybody. I want to be me. I want to do commercial rock."
