Anna Nicole Smith had to be carried off stage at the American Music Awards after her slurred speech was cut short.

She had arrived at the ceremony 10 minutes after it had started and then appeared drunk on stage as she introduced rapper Kanye West's act.

Producers panicked when she began her babbling speech with the words "Like my body?", reports the IMDb website.

After being led away from the podium she staggered around backstage, and had to be helped to stand up by two bodyguards.

The reality TV star then fell onto the gift table with a maniacal grin on her face and had to be lifted up by an unknown man, according to the Splash news agency.

Anna insists her current state of mind has been swayed by her recent weight loss and constant taunts about being stupid.

She said: "I liked me better bigger because now I'm too bony. I'm just portrayed as some bimbo, and never taken seriously."

Anne Nicole's lawyer, Howard K Stern, claimed she had not been on drugs or drunk. He said her behaviour was due to her bad eyesight.

"She couldn't really read the teleprompter because she has bad eyes," Stern told the New York Post.

"She flubbed a line, but she's fine. Anna did numerous other interviews afterwards where it's obvious that she's fine."

Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the LA ceremony, quipped the world's most famous widow delivered the best performance of the night.
