The Beatles' greatest hits album, 1, looks set to go platinum in its first week of sales. The 27-song collection broke through the 200,000 barrier yesterday and looks set to achieve the 300,000 sales needed to go platinum by Sunday. The Beatles' release is the first to collect together all their US and UK number ones on one album and is expected to be a big seller for weeks to come. Chart expert Gennaro Castaldo of HMV said: "These sales show that the album is likely to be the biggest selling album this Christmas if not the year." |
