Madonna's next album will be influenced by rock.

The album, out at the end of the year, will have a more edgy theme reports The Sun.

A source said: "Living in Britain she has become a real fan of Franz Ferdinand and loves the kitschy sound of The Darkness.

"She is close to finishing the new album and there is a real hard rock feel to it."

Swedish duo Bloodshy and Avant who produced Toxic for Britney Spears have been asked to write a song for the album.
