Beyonce Knowles has auditioned for a new movie which is based on a Broadway tribute to Diana Ross and the Supremes.

According to the New York Post the Destiny's Child singer is in talks to star in the movie titled Dreamgirls.

It will be filmed by Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks production company and directed by Bill Condon, who wrote Kinsey and Chicago.

The movie will feature a cast of mainly unknowns, according to the Post.

Filming is scheduled to begin in the autumn.

The story was musical hit on Broadway in the early 80s.

Beyonce has previously appeared in Austin Powers: Goldmember and The Fighting Temptations and will be seen in the upcoming Pink Panther movie with Steve Martin and Kevin Kline.

According to Variety, Dreamgirls was the story about a trio of young black female singers starting their careers in the early 1960s.
