Kevin Federline has admitted he didn't tell Britney Spears he loved her until he was sure the feeling was mutual.

In an episode of the pair's reality television show, Chaotic, to air in the US next week, the 27-year-old former dancer said: "I wasn't going to tell her I loved her until I knew for sure that she really felt that way about me.

"So, I kept my mouth shut. Maybe not my emotions, but my mouth. After that, we both kinda opened up to each other."

His 23-year-old wife admits that in the past she has kept up her defences, but all that's changed since meeting Federline.

"I think that's what love does," she said. "You can't put up any more walls and all that stuff."

The couple's first baby is due in November.
