Tom Cruise has been getting to know fiancee Katie Holmes' parents before the couple tie the knot.

The 42-year-old War of the Worlds star's devotion to the Church of Scientology is said to concern the parents of his 26-year-old girlfriend who apparently thought it would be a good idea for everyone to meet and get to know each other, according to the New York Post.

Cruise, his mother and his sister Lee Anne DeVette and the Holmes have all been staying at suites at New York's Carlyle Hotel, the paper reports.

"It's kind of a 'get to know you before the kids get married' session," a source told the Post.

Cruise's War of the Worlds receives its New York premiere tonight.
