 Ananova:
Pete avoids jail

Pete Doherty has avoided a jail sentence after pleading guilty to multiple drugs charges.

Pete Doherty leaves Thames Magistrates Court /PA

The singer was sentenced to a community order with two years' supervision, an 18 month drug rehabilitation programme and a six month driving ban at Thames Magistrates Court.

Judge Jane McIvor said Doherty's efforts to leave drugs behind him would be "a long and slow process," but praised him for "showing significant signs of compliance and effort."

However, she warned that if he were to breach the order, the singer may face time in prison.

He must return to court on 31 May for a review of how his rehabilitation order is progressing.
