Cameron Diaz has been lined up to star in a new horror movie by the director of Donnie Darko.

She plays a woman who is given a mysterious box by a stranger, reports Variety.com.

Director Richard Kelly has based the script on a short story by Richard Matheson.

He said: "My hope is to make a film that is incredibly suspenseful and broadly commercial, while still retaining my artistic sensibility."
