Kylie Minogue has confirmed she will be assisting Doctor Who in this year's Christmas special.

The Australian star has long been rumoured for a part in the sci-fi show, and it has been revealed that she will take a "major lead role" in one of the festive episodes.

As her role was announced she posed for photos with her new pal and Doctor Who star David Tennent.

"It is an incredible thrill to be joining David and the entire production. It is going to be very exciting," Kylie told the Daily Mirror.

In the Doctor's latest adventure the Aussie singer will play a waitress onboard the ill-fated Titanic.

Filming for the episode starts in Cardiff in late July.
