Radiohead prefer not having a record label calling it: "liberating". On Monday (October 1), the band announced they would sell their new album, In Rainbows, online without a record label - giving buyers the choice to choose what price to pay. During the recording stage, Thom Yorke told NME: "It's really liberating not to feel part of the record company structures." Oxford man Thom was inspired to record without a label by Tom Waits who made one of his most critically acclaimed albums, Swordfishtrombones, whilst out of contract. Thom explains: "I think that was just him finding his own space, and removing himself from the bits he hated about where he'd been before. And I think that's what we're in the process of doing." In Rainbows will be available on the Radiohead website from October 10.
