Coronation Street's Mike Baldwin explodes with fury when his drunken son Mark finally blurts out the truth about his affair with his dad's lover - on their wedding day.

The pair come to blows as Mark spills the beans on his months of liaisons with Linda Sykes in an hour-long special of the British soap, to be screened on Sunday.

Soap bosses are keeping tight-lipped about how the showdown affects the couple actually tying the knot, but a spokeswoman said: "It is very, very dramatic."

Mark, played by Paul Fox, cannot face acting as best man for the wedding and does a disappearing act.

Factory boss Mike - Johnny Briggs - and Linda (Jacqueline Pirie) come across him laid out in their bridal suite after knocking back their post-wedding champagne and wrecking the room.

In his stupor he confesses to sleeping with Linda just moments before Mike proposed to her - much to the horror of Linda who looks on aghast.

"It is the moment Mike finds out what 18 million fans have known for months," said the show's spokeswoman.

The build-up for the big day begins in tonight's episode which also sees Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) beaten up for his run-in with Corrie villain Jez Quigley (Lee Boardman).

Steve is lured to a secluded spot in his taxi by a sexy passenger, but is collared by thugs with Rottweilers. His dad Jim goes on to exact revenge for the beating during Sunday's edition of the soap.
