Channel 5's gameshow Jailbreak has proved a ratings hit for the station with audiences doubling for the time slot, early figures have shown. The first show pulled in an average of one million viewers, marking a share of around 5% of the people watching TV at that time. Although a modest audience for most broadcasters, Channel 5 bosses point out the programme doubled the normal figure for that tough slot which is up against EastEnders and Emmerdale on the main two channels. There were also 1.1 million hits on the website in the first 24 hours. A station spokesman said: "We're delighted it's made such an initial impact and like Big Brother it will build. It's already created a great deal of interest on the internet." The interest surrounding this summer's TV hit Big Brother has helped Channel 4 to record ratings. |
