Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati is joining police in an investigation into the disappearance of a teenage girl. Shafilea Ahmed, 17, was last seen near her home in Warrington, Cheshire, in September. The A-level student recently returned from a trip to Pakistan where she drank bleach in protest at the prospect of an arranged marriage. She needed regular medical attention for injuries to her throat and detectives from Cheshire Constabulary believe she is dead. They refuse to rule out the possibility that her disappearance is linked to her refusal to agree to an arranged marriage. Shobna Gulati, who plays shop assistant Sunita in Coronation Street, has agreed to read out song lyrics which were found in Shafilea's bedroom. The lyrics were written by the teenager and it is hoped they will offer some clue as to why she disappeared. |
