The ex-husband of Britney Spears has spoken about their surprise marriage.

Jason Alexander told TV programme Access Hollywood that the wedding was a spur of the moment affair.

He said: "It was just crazy, man. We were just looking at each other and said, 'Let's do something wild, crazy. Let's go get married, just for the hell of it'."

He said they soon realised they had to fix the "mistake" they had made.

After the annulment was granted, Spears' lawyer David Chesnoff said: "Jason agreed to this completely. They've made a wise decision. I know they care about each other. They are friends."

The singer wed Alexander on the Las Vegas Strip in the early hours of Saturday.

But within hours the 22-year-old star realised she had taken the "joke too far", according to a spokesman.
