The production company behind Fame Academy says it has withdrawn its current application to use the show's lavish house. Planning officers had lodged a report in which they accused Endemol of damaging Witanhurst, the historic listed house, where the show has been filmed for the past two years. Officers from Camden Council were due to decide tonight whether to allow Endemol to continue using the site for its third series. But at the last minute Endemol decided to withdraw its current application to use the site in the Highgate location. The council said the production company should have obtained permission before they made changes to the Grade II* listed building. Local residents have complained about the use of the house, citing the noise of helicopters overhead, loud music played at night, and the smell from on-site generators. Planning officers were recommending that planning permission was refused because they feared an "accumulative effect" of damage done to the building if there was a third series. A spokesman for Endemol said the current application had been withdrawn but that discussions with the council would continue. He denied that the decision meant that the show would be filmed elsewhere. He said: "We have decided not to make the application that we were going to make today. But we will continue the dialogue with the council that has been going on for some time. We are not going to walk away from it." A decision on whether to film a third series of the programme is due later this year. |
