 Ananova:
Rockers' world tour 'in jeopardy over police attack'

Fans of Canadian rockers Rush have been warned some of the band's 30th anniversary world tour could be hanging in the balance following the guitarist's arrest over allegedly attacking a policeman.

The tour, which it is understood was to include up to 55 dates in Europe and North America from May, may be in jeopardy if US prosecutors charge Alex Zivojinovich with the offence.

The 50-year-old was arrested New Year's Eve for alleged aggravated battery on a Florida law enforcement officer, and could face a jail term if he is charged and convicted of the offence.

On Monday, Florida state prosecutors announced a decision on whether to charge him would be revealed in two weeks, reports www.news-press.com.

Zivojinovich, better known by his stage name, Alex Lifeson, and his son, Justin, were arrested following a disturbance during a party at the Ritz-Carlton hotel.

Police stated hotel guards called them to remove the father and son after they became unruly. While trying to escort the Zivojinoviches from the hotel, deputies said the two started fighting with them. Deputies said they had to shoot Alex Zivojinovich twice with a stun gun to subdue him.

Zivojinovich was taken to Naples Community Hospital, where he was treated for a bloody nose before being booked into the Collier County Jail on charges of aggravated battery on deputies, resisting arrest with violence and disorderly intoxication.

Florida newspaper Naples Daily News crime writer Brent Batten said: "Any felony conviction could jeopardise the tour scheduled for this year. In the post 9-11 world, the United States isn't keen on letting foreign criminals into the country. While he owns a home in Naples, Zivojinovich is Canadian.

"The reality of the situation serves as a cold slap in the face to Rush fans confident a rich rock icon with a clean record and top-notch defence lawyers would get off with a light sentence, possibly in the form of a community service concert in our own back yard."
