Britney Spears says she "dearly loves" ex-husband Jason Alexander and married him to find out what it would be like.

In an interview with US television's Entertainment Tonight, she said: "Honestly, I really wanted to see what it was like to be married."

Britney's wedding at a 24-hour chapel in Las Vegas on January 3 to childhood friend Alexander was annulled after 55 hours.

She added: "Maybe that sounds silly, but in that moment I was with a friend that I love dearly and I wanted to do something wild and crazy and I wanted to get married. So that's why I did it."

She said she has chosen not to look at newspaper reports about the wedding and adds that the experience has made her more cautious.

"I want to think a little more about what I do from now on because they blew it way out of proportion."

Her comments come amid speculation she and Alexander are still seeing each other and that she is still wearing the ring he gave her.
