Ozzy Osbourne has been honoured with the Godlike Genius award at the NME awards.
The rocker is at home in Los Angeles recovering from his recent quadbike accident, but sent a thank you message on video. He said he had no idea why the award had been bestowed on him, adding: "I'm far from being a genius. I'm just glad I'm still breathing." Vernon Kay hosted the awards, held at Po Na Na's in Hammersmith. Radiohead won best album for Hail To The Thief and best video for There There.
US rockers Kings of Leon were named best new band and best international band. Best UK band went to the Libertines. The Darkness were up for a host of awards, including best UK band, best live band and best single for I Believe In A Thing Called Love, but won nothing. But this was not a surprise, as singer Justin Hawkins has vowed never to co-operate with the music magazine after it slated the group's first single. |
