The final Lord of the Rings film has overtaken Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to become the second highest grossing film - behind Titanic.
Screen Daily website says the Return of the King has taken £520m, while the first Harry Potter movie has taken £516.8m.
Titanic, released in 1997, has grossed £950m worldwide. The Return of the King has broken records almost everywhere it has been screened. In the first five days after its release in December it took £64m. It made its debut in Japan at the weekend at number one, and is set to pass £530m at the international box office this weekend. |
