 Ananova:
Tim Burton feels like a stranger at home

Tim Burton says he feels like a stranger in his native America and his odd behaviour is much more readily accepted in Britain.

While in Berlin promoting his new film Big Fish, Burton told German media: "I always felt like a foreigner in America. I think acceptance of individual behaviour is higher in England."

But Burton said he personally doesn't consider himself an outsider, as "society forces you into those categories".

In spite of his image as a quirky director, Burton says he can bore people at parties when he starts telling stories: "If I tried to tell a story at a party, everyone would run away."

The director went on to reveal that he usually finds inspiration for his surreal films in daily life: "The Terminator has become governor of California. What could be more surreal than that?"

Burton's latest film deals with the relationship between a father and son - not an easy task for the director, whose father died just before shooting started.

However, according to Burton, making the film replaced going to therapy: "At first I wanted to do some therapy to be able to handle it. But the film helped me deal with it."
