 Ananova:
New movie 'moved to avoid Spider-Man clash'

Executives of a new film starring Jude Law and Angelina Jolie have moved its opening date to avoid a clash with Spider-Man 2.

The New York Post claims Paramount moved the US launch of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow from June 25 to September 17 to avoid a clash with the Spider-Man sequel.

The $100m film is directed by first-timer Kerry Conran, a computer expert who invented a system that lets directors create a 3-D storyboard against a blue-screen background, and only add actors later.

But although Conran is described as the 'new Steven Spielberg', the paper claims both Law and Jolie have refused to do any magazine cover shots to promote it.

Paramount spokesman Robert Friedman denied claims that the film, also starring Gwyneth Paltrow, had also been moved to avoid a clash with Harry Potter.

"It was only moved once, and the one reason it was moved at all is because 'Spider-Man 2' was moved," he said.

"When the Spidey sequel was shifted from a Friday to the Wednesday before, it would have given 'Sky Captain' just four days of relative freedom from competition."
