Adolf Hitler and Satan have been allowed into a US school's fancy dress party - but Jesus was barred. School principal Joe Yeager said some teachers and students had found Gabriel Koppelberger's Halloween costume of sheets and a crown of thorns blasphemous. Gabriel was not ordered to go home and change, but said that he did so only because Mr Yeager called him into his office in Page High School, Franklin, Tennessee, for a "discussion" about his outfit. "I feel like I shouldn't have been called into his office because of my costume when other people dressed as demons weren't," said the 17-year-old. "There was a kid dressed as Hitler, and nobody said anything to him, either." Gabriel and his girlfriend had hoped to win the "best couple" award in the school's Halloween costume contest by dressing as Jesus and Satan. His girlfriend's costume consisted of regular street clothes and a pair of fake horns she wore on her head, reports The Tennessean. Gabriel's mother, Tarri, said her son's freedom of expression rights were violated. She added: "To say that portraying Jesus is offensive and not to find a costume like Hitler and some of the other violent costumes offensive, I question that, too." |
