Egyptologists have discovered traces of cocaine in 4,000-year-old Egyptian mummies. But the German study has proved controversial, with researcher Svetlana Balabanova saying the results were almost hidden because of pressure from some historians. The findings have reopened arguments over who discovered America as cocaine is made from the leaves of the coca plant, which is native to Colombia, Peru and Bolivia. Experts say the discovery in Egypt shows contact must have been made with native American cultures centuries before Christopher Columbus sailed there, reports Channel Africa. |
