 Ananova:
Ramblers want to ramble through nudist site

Naturists in the North of England are trying to block plans by ramblers to have a right-of-way reinstated on a path which runs through a nudist camp.

The nudists' site is on the outskirts of Haverigg village near Millom in Cumbria and sits among 47 coastal acres. The area was taken over during the war and the path was closed when the beach was mined.

In 1947 the land was returned to farming but the path wasn't restored to a right-of-way. Now ramblers and Cumbria County Council have applied to have the two-mile right-of-way restored.

The nudists have turned to deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott, to ask for help because the path passes within peeping distance of tents and caravans.

Peter Miller of the Lakeland Outdoor Club said: "We just want the right to strip off and enjoy the quiet and solitude. If every Tom, Dick or Harry is allowed to come through, it will mean the end of our club."

A local official says some residents in the area aren't too keen on the nudists.

"There is a place for these nudists, but it's not here," said Bill Giles.

A public inquiry will be held early next year, reports the Daily Express.
