 Ananova:
Britain to unveil first Aids memorial

Britain's first Aids memorial is set to be unveiled on December 1, World's Aids Day.

The £50,000 stainless steel sculpture, called the Beacon of Hope, is placed with the existing Tree of Life in Sacksville Park in Manchester's Gay Village.

It will act as a permanent symbol of hope for a future cure and be a focal point for memorial gatherings in the park. Each World Aids Day, the names of those who have died from Aids will be placed in a capsule.

The beacon is on a podium covered in different coloured mosaic tiles which can be sponsored and dedicated to the memory of a loved one.

Manchester Online reports that a plaque listing all the donors, including Manchester Health Authority, Manchester City Council and dozens of venues in the village which held fundraising events, has also been erected.
