A Chilean woman is suing a judge who ordered that her six-year-old son be handcuffed and put in leg irons. Ana Pavez's son started misbehaving when she brought him with her to a court hearing in Santiago. Both the judge and his mother asked him to behave but he continued talking loudly, running and jumping up and down. The judge had him handcuffed and put in leg irons but the boy continued disturbing the court so the judge called him a 'Tasmanian devil' and had him removed from the room. At the time, Mrs Pavez said she understood the judge's frustration but now says he acted improperly. She said: "I realised my son is only six and that he was treated like a criminal." |
