 Ananova:
Fire burnt patient during op

A hospital patient suffered burns to his backside during an operation after a cloth soaked with disinfectant caught fire.

Medical staff leapt back from the operating table as the man's backside caught fire at the Novy Jicin hospital in the Czech republic.

The 24-year-old man had been undergoing surgery to remove skin growths when the accident happened. He suffered burns to 5% of his body.

Police are investigating the case and could bring charges against the medical team.

According to commercial television station TV Nova, the cloth was probably set alight by a machine used in the operation.

Doctors insisted that human error was not to blame and said they used a normal disinfection solution.
