Teachers in New Zealand were left in tears after their students struggled with a difficult maths exam. They said the maths with calculus paper was too hard and disadvantaged pupils who speak English as a second language. Headmaster of Nelson College Salvi Gargiulo said he'd seen students break down over exams but to see teachers cry was an indictment on the paper. He told The New Zealand Herald: "To see experienced teachers in tears makes a real statement about just how stupid this exam was." At least three complaints have been made about the bursary exam to the Qualifications Authority. Authority spokesman Michael Steer said the complaints would be passed on to the chief marker who may be able to scale the marks. |
