Kernhof Zoo specialises in breeding the animals - the only ones of their kind in Europe.

Canberra joins his mother Kimberley and brother Melbourne, who are also albinos, as main attractions at the zoo.

Zoo Director Herbert Eder said that keepers cannot yet identify the sex of the joey, which will only be possible once it emerges from its mother's pouch in about six month's time.

"Albino kangaroos are extremely rare, which makes our programme to reproduce the condition a great success," he said.

"We are the only European zoo to have albino kangaroos and they are also uncommon in their native Australia."
