A private photo album containing previously unpublished pictures of Hitler's girlfriend Eva Braun has been discovered in the US.
The album was found by German TV documentary makers researching a series called History, which is being broadcast by ZDF, the country's second public broadcaster. They said the photos show a naive but egoistic and absent-minded young woman very much in the shadow of Hitler.
According to Stefan Brauburger, deputy head of ZDF's contemporary history department, Eva Braun put together several albums and handed them out as presents. "Eva made five albums for her best friends, and we have come across one of them. She made it for a family in Munich for Christmas, 1941, and signed it. "I don't know where the other four are, perhaps in private ownership. And I cannot give away the identity of the person who had this album in the USA." The photographs also portray Eva in a romantic world in Hitler's alpine retreat, far removed from the real world.
Mr Brauburger said: "There are more than 100 pictures in this album. The pictures are of Eva and there are some she took herself, and there are some she took of Hitler. There are close-ups of her as well.
As far as we know most of these pictures have never been published before, and we have asked lots of experts." |
