A married Vietnamese couple have tied the knot in the US grocery store where the groom works so the bride can take advantage of her husband's health insurance plan. Dung E. Thai and Loan Tran married at the suburban Pittsburgh Giant Eagle grocery store where Thai works in the prepared foods department. The couple had been married earlier in Vietnam but needed to repeat the ceremony in the United States so Tran could enroll in her husband's health insurance plan. "With this ring, I give thee health insurance," said District Justice Robert Dzvonick, who performed the ceremony. A worker at the Giant Eagle announced the ceremony over the public address system. About 60 shoppers gathered to watch the exchange of vows near the floral section. The store manager, Chuck Sholhead, spent $200 (£140) in store funds on Tran's wedding dress and shoes. "In this store, we're all like a family," said Karen Nest, a delicatessen clerk. The bakery department provided the cake, and the best man was Thai's boss, Ken Bayer, who gave the couple last minute tips on the wedding in the store's cold storage room. Thai has lived in the United States since 1984 and met his wife in Vietnam six years ago. They have two children. |
