Police in Nigeria have arrested a woman, said to be a witch, who has been accused of stealing a man's penis.

The woman had been stripped and beaten by a mob before being dragged down a busy road half-naked in Lagos.

Members of the crowd told police the woman was a witch who had "magically stolen" the penis of a man.

No one in the crowd had seen any evidence of the theft. But they all appeared to believe the man, who was said to be holding tightly on to his trousers.

Police would not say why they had arrested the woman or whether the man's claims had been verified.

It is widely believed in Nigeria that witches have the power to steal men's sexual organs by an incantation or a handshake.
