 Ananova:
Topless women banned from standing on Italian beaches

Women have been banned from going topless on Italian beaches unless they are lying down.

New rules say women must cover up while walking on the beach, playing beach volleyball and soaking in the sea.

The strict 10-point guide issued by the Italian Association for Public Bathing also forbids playing football on the beach, hanging up wet clothes to dry on beach umbrellas and drinking alcohol.

The guide also restricts mobile phone use and says people who shout down their mobiles will be asked to turn them off.

Association president Riccardo Scarselli, said the behaviour of holidaymakers on the beach was getting worse: "People feel entitled to do whatever they want, just because they've put on a bathing suit," he said.

And the new regulations even ban people from changing into swimwear under their towels.

"There are always plenty of cabins for people to get changed in and they should use them," said Mr Scarselli.
