A perfume that smells of a country village is about to be launched in Holland.

L'essence de Mastenbroek is said to smell like the village of the same name in the north west of Holland.

The scent is a mixture of hay, cattle and herbs and spices, reports Gazet van Antwerpen.

"We've chosen not to use orchids, roses or other flowers," said a spokesman for SKOR, the Foundation for Art and Urbaniz.

"The whole idea is to bring back the smell of the countryside to the city, because people have forgotten how the country really smells."

L'essence de Mastenbroek is only for sale in the Bijenkorf chain of shops. The price is not yet known.
