Growing numbers of Chinese couples are buying each other cosmetic surgery for Valentine's Day. Clinics in Shanghai reported a boom in business in the run up to February 14, reports the Xinhua news agency. Some pay for their partners to go under the knife while others surprise their loved ones with new features of their own. And surgeons say three couples in the city even asked to have matching features. Dr Liu Chunlong, of the Shanghai Art Plastic Cosmetic and Esthetic Surgery Clinic, claimed business had risen by 30%. He told China Daily: "A lot of our patients, especially the women, have been telling the doctors their surgery was an early Valentine's present from their husband or boyfriend - they seem really pleased with their gifts" Liu Yan, who had a nose job done along with her boyfriend a fortnight ago, said: "I suggested it as a way of celebrating our relationship and bringing us closer together with a special kind of bond. "My boyfriend loved the idea and paid for the whole thing; we're very happy with the results."
