 Ananova:
Couple leaflet homes in search for egg donor

A Belgian couple desperate for another baby are leafleting door-to-door in the hope of finding an egg donor.

The couple, from Landen near Louvain, have posted 4,000 letters through local letterboxes.

The woman, named by Gazet van Antwerpen as Linda, 38, is suffering from accelerated menopause.

But she is desperate for a second child and has been told by doctors that she faces a two year wait for a donor egg.

"We can't wait that long," said Linda.

Obstetrician Virginie Szymczak, from the university clinic in Ghent, said it was much harder to find egg donors than sperm donors.

"Women have to undergo an special treatment with hormones and the removal of the eggs is rather painful. That's why most women don't agree spontaneously," she said.

Linda and husband Danny, 34, have had no response so far to their letter writing campaign.

"But still we go on. It's the only way," said Danny.
