 Ananova:
Boris for England!

England will boast a surprise defender when they take on Germany on the football field - Tory MP Boris Johnson.

Johnson will be part of an England legends team taking on a Germany legends team in a charity match at Reading's Madejski Stadium.

He said: "I'm like a greased panther, a coiled spring, all that suppressed kinetic energy.

"My metatarsals are OK and I'm looking forward to the game. No-one has ever asked me to play for England before, for Queen and country."

He admitted that he had not played football since he was 17 and "even then I wasn't much good".

"What I would advise fans is to expect little and possibly they'll receive even less," he added.

Former footballers Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle, Graeme Le Saux, John Barnes, Paul Merson, Lee Sharpe, Les Ferdinand, Jamie Redknapp and Matt Le Tissier will play alongside Johnson.

Others taking part include Wasps and England rugby union star Lawrence Dallaglio, former F1 racing champion Damon Hill, ex-England cricket captain Alec Stewart, boxer Nigel Benn and actor Sean Bean.

Gemany include 1990 German World Cup winning captain, Lothar Matthaus, former internationals Thomas Helmer and Steffen Freund, and tennis legend Boris Becker.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's girlfriend, Italian lawyer Nancy Dell'Olio, will help to present the winners' trophy.

The game is to raise money for the British Red Cross and the Bobby Moore Fund.
