Morrissey's manager bought up a butcher's entire stock to avoid offending the vegetarian singer. Morrissey, whose albums include Meat Is Murder, had stipulated that his concert venue in Truro, Cornwall, was meat free. But his manager spotted butcher Chris Barrow's stall at the hall as part of a weekly country market. Mr Barrow said: "When the manager said he would buy the whole lot I thought he was joking. "He asked how much I wanted and I thought about it and said £200. He took out a wad of cash and paid it without blinking an eye. I wish I'd said £300 now." The manager then donated the meat to a local hostel for the homeless. It consisted of two bin-bags of sausages, lamb, venison, steak and chops, as well as 40 packs of bacon and 30 packets of sliced ham Hostel boss Steve Ellis said: "Morrissey didn't want his donation publicised but, as it has come out, I'm happy to say we're extremely grateful."
