A gay 15-year-old boy wore a tiara and a flowing dress to become a Somerset town's new carnival queen. Thousands of locals lined the streets of Axbridge to cheer after David Bridge beat three girls to the title, reports the Mirror. David said: "Some people said they were going to throw eggs at me on the parade but thankfully it never happened. "I was very nervous to begin with but I really enjoyed the day." David stunned the carnival committee by auditioning to be their Blackberry queen in drag. Carnival chairman Robin Goodfellow, 66, said: "We had to decide which would offend people least - including David. "It was felt we couldn't eliminate him just because he was male. This was the best solution on the day." David's proud carer, Belinda Swansbury, said: "He is such an extrovert he has just loved it all. His family were very supportive." She added: "He has already experienced discrimination because he is a young gay teenager. "We told him about the consequences of the attention because it's a controversial matter. But he was mature enough to make a decision and he chose to go for it."
