A Patriot surface-to-air missile has been found in a Florida scrapyard. Workers at the yard, in Ybor City, Tampa, called police to say they'd found a "torpedo", reports Metro News. Experts were drafted in from the nearby MacDill Air Force Base, who quickly identified the object as a Patriot. They said that it was harmless, as it was missing its warhead. MacDill spokesman Lt. Omar Villarreal confirmed that the missile did not contain "the part on top that goes boom". However, the missile still had its rocket motor and guidance system. Experts suggested it could have been a model used for training purposes. Patriot missiles are the main surface-to-air missile system used by the American military, and first came to prominence when they were used to shoot down Iraqi Scud missiles during the 1991 Gulf War.
