 Ananova:
Search for firefighters goes on

Fire crews are continuing to search for their former colleagues in the charred shell of a warehouse which burnt down at the weekend.

One firefighter, Ian Reid, 44, was pulled out of the blaze but died later in hospital.

His three colleagues Darren Yates-Badley, 24, Ashley Stephens, 20, and John Averis, 27, are still missing.

The search for the missing three is moving "painfully" slowly, fire chiefs said on Monday.

They are scouring the plant "inch by inch" and taking the operation "minute by minute", they said.

For the fourth day since the blaze in a vegetable packing warehouse in Atherstone on Stour, the families of the missing firefighters will wait for news from the search crews.

Two hundred people are involved in the ongoing search, including firefighters from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service.

Search co-ordinators have indicated that the operation could take some time and called the task "immensely frustrating".

So far, crews have only managed to venture 20 metres into the tangled wreckage that remains of the warehouse.

But teams remain determined to locate their former comrades, they have said.
