Ananova:

A man believed to be in his 40s has been shot dead on a street.

The man, who has not been identified, was killed near the Millhouse pub on Alderwood Avenue, Speke, Liverpool, shortly after 8pm on Tuesday, Merseyside Police said.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.

A force spokesman said a newsagent and gym near to the shooting were open at the time and detectives want to speak to anyone who saw something suspicious.

House-to-house enquiries are being conducted and high visibility patrols have been set up.
