Jars of Marmite containing champagne are being sold for Valentine's Day.

Gold labels on the special jars are heart-shaped and say "I love you" and "For my lovely Marmite lover".

The company is making 600,000 of the special 250g pots, which are 0.3 per cent champagne.

Spokesman Ewan Venters said: "We are billing it to be one of this year's most popular gifts."

The jars will go on sale in supermarkets on January 21 at £2.99 each, instead of the usual price of around £2.15.

Before then they will be sold at Selfridges for £3.99 - along with 50 special pots with engraved silver lids at £145 each.
