A Chinese student stuck in the country's worst winter weather in 50 years tried to ski 150 miles home. He was stopped by police officers concerned for his safety after he rented a pair of skis and set off. The student, of Yangtse University in Jingzhou city, was stuck at school because of the snow storms in southern China where transport has been paralysed with airports and motorways closed. "I didn't want to stay at school alone, so I rented a set of skis," the student told News Express. He was stopped after skiing 25 miles by police who were diverting traffic off a motorway. Officers drove him to a long-distance bus station from which buses could reach his home in Wuhan city. Snow has been falling in central and southern regions of China for more than two weeks. It has hit the busiest travelling season, the run up to Chinese New Year, when most people try to get home to their families.
