Presidential favourite George W Bush has been hit by a scandal - over claims his grandfather stole the skull of Apache chief Geronimo. Ned Anderson, an Apache leader, told Mr Bush to save his family's honour by returning Geronimo's skull, the Daily Record reports. Mr Anderson said: "George could put an end to this without it becoming an election issue. It's sacrilege and a national disgrace. How would he feel if we'd stolen his grandfather's skull? "They desperately want to keep this sick scandal quiet. But we'll never let it rest until they return the skull and let our great leader rest in peace." Geronimo, a legendary Indian fighter, died in 1909 and was buried at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Mr Anderson said Mr Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, was an officer at the fort and dug up the skull. He says Prescott Bush was a member of the Yale Skull and Bones Club, and the stolen skull was used in midnight rituals at the clubhouse known as The Tomb at the famous university. His son and grandson also went to Yale and were members of the club. The club's lawyer, Endicott Davison, says they don't have the skull - but admits that club members used to steal from graves. Mr Anderson wants to recover the skull for re-burial in Geronimo's home state of Arizona. |
